Old Mutual (OML)
Old Mutual is one of the largest companies in South Africa. It moved to London and floated in 1999 to diversify away from its base. It has made acquisitions to spread its assets subsequently but the majority of earnings still come from South Africa
Old Mutual dividends
Old Mutual's dividend was severely affected by the 2008/09 market downturn, being cut from a high of 6.85p in 2007 right down to 1.5p two years later.
However their dividend payout is recovering well and is on track to return to the pre-crash levels over the next couple of years.
Their high dividend cover and sale of assets meant they could make a special dividend payment in June 2012.
